Card Readers - Card Access System For Complete Safety And Security
Card reader systems are not the newest and greatest system out there, but they can increase your overall security, whether for access to your business, or just too restricted areas with sensitive material and information. Card readers come in a variety, and each security card reader reads specific types of cards. The most popular, and easiest to use, is the magnetic card reader. However, magnetic card readers are not the only type of card reader available. There are also security card readers that read optical cards, such as the funky looking design found on the back of many states drivers licenses. This type of security card reader can read much more information from the optical cards than can be contained on a standard magnetic strip used for magnetic card readers.
In addition to that, you can also purchase the old school style card readers, which are still in use by places like Pacific Pride fueling stations. I’d use another example, but they’re the only place I know of that still uses these. This type of card has holes punched through it, and the card reader reads that as the information for identifying whose card it is. I don’t recommend this type of card reader for security reasons. How difficult is it, really, to get a piece of plastic and punch some holes in the thing? Pretty simple to duplicate, and that means your security is down the drain.
Magnetic card readers are the logical choice for most people, I would surmise. The cost of your average magnetic card reader has come down drastically in the last decade, and you can purchase ones that plug into your computer via a USB cable, so the ease of installation is simply unsurpassed. Optical card readers are much more expensive, and really would be overkill for most businesses needs. However, if you’re dealing in top secret technology, I’d say go with the overkill.
No matter what type of security card reader you pick, make sure that it suits your purposes. Security card readers are there for security, hence the name security card reader. Whether you pick a magnetic card reader, optical card reader, or some other type of security card reader, it needs to meet or exceed your security needs. There’s no reason what-so-ever to have a card reader that can’t handle your expectations, or doesn’t leave room to grow as your business expands. I recommend magnetic card readers for their ease of use, ease of installation, and relatively difficult to duplicate security strip. However, if you feel that you need to boost up to an optical card reader, then by all means, do so. You can never be too careful where your business is concerned, and the great the security your card reader system offers you, the easier you’ll be able to sleep at night.
